JOSEF & ANNI ALBERS FOUNDATION, Artist Residency / Connecticut, EE.UU. / July-Sept 2026
Anni and Josef Albers were pioneering 20th-century artists associated with the Bauhaus in Germany. After emigrating to the United States, they became influential figures at Black Mountain College in North Carolina, where they taught and helped shape a new generation of artists.
Josef later taught at Yale University, where he explored color theory, drawing, and painting. His practice also encompassed furniture design, printmaking, and other artistic disciplines. Anni, an educator and pioneering textile artist, is best known for her innovative approach to weaving, pictorial textiles, graphic line drawing, and printmaking. Through her work, she expanded the possibilities of textiles, challenging the boundaries between craft, design, and fine art.
Their work, writing, and teaching have been a guiding light for me since the very beginning of my path in the arts, and continue to inspire generations of artists, transforming the way we perceive color and approach the process of art-making.
Throughout their lives, they also collaborated on architectural and interior design projects, exploring the relationships between art, materials, and space. Their work across painting, textiles, woodworking, and printmaking has been exhibited in major museums and continues to influence artistic practice around the world.
During my three months Artist Residency at the Albers Foundation @albers_foundation, I learned to weave on a four-shaft loom. I further developed my practice during an intensive week-long workshop at the Textile Arts Center (TAC) in New York City, @textileartscenter.
